This week I tried out the printing for the brochure to find out what can I improve more on it. The picture below is the result of the brochure. First of I should actually pick a thicker material so when the pull tab is pulled, the pages will flip more smoothly. Next is the is any of the pages with color background need to be expand, also call bleeding in printing, so when printed out, there wouldn't be white line at the sides. I have limit the amount of information and pages so that the output will not become a booklet instead. I would also be changing the colors of the font for each section so it will be the same design as the pull tabs design.

Week 10 - Content and design
This week I started on searching and putting the right content for the brochure. Because there is so much of information about poverty, I had to narrow down some of it and categorize these content into different section that will be in the brochure. I have categorize the section into: facts, types, countries affected by poverty and using the different colors to differentiate the pages.
After many weeks of searching for tutorial, I finally found one that gives the measurement for the waterfall brochure, all I have to do is measure my design based on my design on an A4 paper folded in half. The bracket numbers are the pages number that will be for the waterfall, and the bottom left paper with the cross line drawing would be the pulltab. So far, I have already finished the rough design for the entire brochure, I would be proceeding to print the design on the actually brochure material to try out and see what are the pros and cons and figure out whether it could be improve more on later.

Week 9 - Some details on pull tab brochure and what content to include in brochure
Today I started to look into more on the structure on mechanics of the pull tab brochure I found on youtube. I notice that the pull tab is actually the last page and is attached together with the other pages. As for my previous try out, the pull tab is actually separated from the content pages therefore I would need to try this out in paper too.
Another thing I notice is the entire size of the brochure is actually an A4 size be cause when the person place her hands on the brochure to pull, her thumbs were around the bottom quarter of the brochure, therefore I can say that the brochure is actually an A4 size or at least around that size. The next thing I have to find out what size are the pages of content on the pull tab side, there are 7 pages including the 1st content and all are equal size. For the 1st content page and the bottom of the 2nd content page, it should take around a quarter of the A4 size, then the bottom of each page content should be all the same length.
I did a rough A4 size of how the brochure who look like and using the different colors to differentiate the different content pages. On the left hand side, I would have the basic information of what poverty is, proceeding with facts of poverty on the right side of the brochure and types of poverty. I decided not to include too much of text as people wouldn't want to spend their time to read the entire story and world about poverty, therefore I would have to narrow down the content and importance of what people should know about poverty. Facts of poverty and the types would use up the 6 pages of content pages on the right and the last remaining pull tab, the indigo color page would teach and info the public on how they could help to prevent/ stop poverty. Also I would definitely include some images probably online so that the reader don't just get all text on the brochure.

Week 7 - Try out on brochure of mechanism
After going through several tutorials on youtube, I went on to try out these mechanism that I would be applying for my brochure. The steps are actually quite straight forward but the tricky thing is the get all the measurement correct in order to get the perfect outcome. Before using the actual material of the brochure, I first use normal pieces of A4 paper to try it out. Below are some of the examples of the tutorial I found on the internet:
Without a bigger paper, I had to stick 2 A4 paper together in order to get the suitable length of the pull tab I wanted. After doing so, all I had to do is stick the pieces of paper, that would eventually be the content of the brochure onto the pull tab on each markings on the pull tab ( the folded sharp edges on the long paper )
These example are actually for gift cards or invitation cards that the interaction takes place before the opening which is the cover of the card, but the mechanism are roughly the same to put it inside of the brochure. After watching the video, I proceeded to do my first try out which was a failure, as the pull tab I made, was not long enough, therefore, when I pull it, the content that will be reveal will only be very minimum as seen in the picture below.
Below are the results of the try out of the mechanism I did. Now the hard part comes as I have to design and decide and what content I would use and to put on each of the pieces of paper. I would need to do another try out on paper by designing the content and print into the paper to find out whether the content would be viewer when pull out with the tab. The small sign 'pull here' would be the section where the picture of props of the begging hand would be placed. As the pull tab is pull out, I would also need to design the content for it as I wouldn't want it to be just empty. I would also need to consider putting images into the brochure as images would also give an impact to the reader.

More research on execution method
I have searched for several ideas online on the design on how my brochure should be design and how can the brochure have interaction with the audience.
First of was the design of the brochure such as colors and font. I want to design it in a way the gives a slightly more sad feel so the when audience read through the brochure, they would feel sympathy and remember the content's of the brochure. Using darker colors and darker images (figure 1.1) can give the impression of a more sad emotion to it also limiting the colors to around maximum 4 colors.
Figure 1.1
Base on my idea of the pop out brochure, the hand would pop out in the middle of the brochure when open as seen in the picture below (figure 1.2). Information, title and pictures would be place at each of the sides. But instead of just one pop out, I also decided I want to try on more pop out, such as the pictures or sub titles, to give it a little 3D look and more attractive design. And besides having to just open once of the brochure, I am planning to add more as to when the brochure is open, inside of it, there would be more things for the reader to flip open such as a small section of story or even pictures. (figure 1.3)

Another idea I thought of is the opening of the brochure which is very important because this will be the first impression of the reader. Since my main tagline message would be 'your waste could save someone's life' I have decided to use a dustbin as an idea, but just an image a dustbin, and readers would need to pull open the cover of the dustbin, that acts like a key to opening to brochure. A simple design of a brochure opening in figure 1.4.
Figure 1.4
Another way to execute this idea is to have an actual piece of paper to act as a key to pull open the brochure, then it would reveal the inside of the brochure. (figure 1.5). Next week we would need to show a rough design on our idea, so I would need to find out the mechanism of the this idea of the brochure opening would work.

week 5 - presentation
We had our presentation this week, and many of us have to decide on how and what to work on our content for our personal project execution. My execution method for my title, 'poverty' using the begging hands would need to be further research on how to do it, and also if I were to use a child's picture, I would need to look for one and take pictures of the child putting it on the cover page of the brochure. My brochure's content would be crucial as I need to research more and narrow down the important contents to put into the brochure.

Week 4 - Research on idea execution
Today we had to research further on our ambient idea and how we want to execute it. Initially, I wanted to handmade a actual prop of the arms of a poor child in Africa with the hand of begging gesture. The props will be place inside the dustbin around campus and a small card with a message 'your waste could save a life' on the hand. Miss Anis suggested that I should change the way on how to approach the people about the message because people would get the wrong idea on what I want to tell them, it would be seen as a scary thing and instead people would rather not approach it.
Miss Anis then suggested I should create a pamphlet that has a pop out and contains all the necessary information about poverty and all the association who help or prevent poverty. So far my idea is to have the hands first come out of the pamphlet and later the full body of the child, but I would need to research more on the first impression of the pamphlet, the cover page on what to put on it. Examples of pop out pamphlet:
